Oakland CA
As Oakland’s first affordable live/work housing, this new “artist’s community” design creates a small business incubator for its residents by providing an accessible computer room, on-site services, and a community room for meetings. Rear yard space allows artists to pursue larger types of artwork outdoors. A 25,000 square foot former industrial building was renovated, seismically upgraded, and doubled in size to accommodate 38 live/work units of affordable urban housing.
